内容記述 The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Science has recently emphasized the importance of promoting the speaking of English of students at primary and secondary schools. However, many teachers and students have experienced difficulties in teaching and learning speaking techniques. The purpose of this paper is to introduce how to teach techniques for improving English speaking and speech of Japanese students utilizing legendary speeches as a model. A method of teaching speeches is presented which includes both unsuccessful and successful examples. It was found that an effective way of teaching Japanese students how to give speeches includes exposing them to the political, historical, and cultural backgrounds of the target speeches.
