青山学院は1874年11月16日ドーラ・E・スクーンメーカー宣教師により始められた麻布の女子小学校からその歴史がスタートし、2024年に創立150周年を迎えた。まさにその2024年、アメリカイリノイ州のグランディ郡歴史協会博物館において、ドーラ・E・スクーンメーカー常設展示が開始されることとなった。ドーラが日本で蒔いた「宣教の種」は、150年後に今度はアメリカに還流して、ドーラが育ち、宣教を決意し、そこから日本へと旅立ったグランディ郡に蒔かれることになり、常設展示という形で新たに花を咲かせはじめたのである。これは決して意図された企画ではなく、関わった者たちの思いを越えて波紋のように広がっていったムーブメントであり、それ自体ドーラと向き合い対話するプロセスであった。本稿は、この展示が未来に向けて、国境を越えたさらなるムーブメントの出発点となることを期待しつつ、その約一年の経緯を報告するものである。

Dora E. Schoonmaker founded the Girls' Elementary School in Azabu on November 16th, 1874. It was the beginning of Aoyama Gakuin, which celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2024. In that very year, 2024, the Dora E. Schoonmaker Exhibit was launched at the Museum of the Grundy County Historical Society in Illinois, USA. The “seeds of mission" that Dora planted in Japan were returned to the United States 150 years later, to be sown in Grundy County, where Dora grew up, decided to become a missionary and departed for Japan. And now they have begun to bloom newly in the form of her permanent exhibit in the Museum. This was not an intended project, but a movement that spread like ripples further and further beyond the thoughts of those involved, and was itself the process of dialogue with Dora. This article reports on this one-year story, in the hope that it will become the starting point of further movements to the future beyond borders.
